Definition
恨 (hèn) means both 'to hate' (a strong emotional dislike) and 'to regret' (a deep, painful regret). It is broader than 厌恶 (yàn wù) 'to loathe/disgust' which focuses on revulsion, and stronger than 后悔 (hòu huǐ) 'to regret' which is more everyday and less intense. For serious resentment or grudges, use 仇恨 (chóu hèn) or 怨恨 (yuàn hèn).
