Definition
总算 (zǒng suàn) has two distinct uses: 1) 'finally, at long last' — like 终于 (zhōng yú) but often with a sense of relief after a wait or effort; 2) 'all in all, on the whole' — similar to 基本上 (jī běn shàng) 'basically' or 毕竟 (bì jìng) 'after all', used to sum up a situation. Unlike 终于, which only means 'finally', 总算 can also express a general conclusion.
