Definition
性质 (xìng zhì) refers to the inherent nature or fundamental property of something — what kind of thing it is at its core. It is broader and more abstract than 特点 (a distinctive feature) or 特征 (an observable trait), and less philosophical than 本质 (essence). Use 性质 when describing the basic character or quality of something, not what makes it stand out.
