Definition
怀孕 (huái yùn) is the standard verb for 'to be pregnant' or 'to conceive' (biological sense). Contrast with 怀 (huái), a shorter form used in the compound or as a verb (怀了孩子), and 身子 (shēn zi), a euphemistic noun (有了身子). 孕育 (yùn yù) is more literary, also meaning 'to nurture or give rise to'.
