忽 is a bound form (b.f.) that appears in compounds and patterns. It has two main senses: 'suddenly, abruptly' (as in 忽然) and 'to neglect, overlook' (as in 忽视, 忽略). It also forms the reduplicated pattern 忽...忽... to describe alternating actions or states, e.g., 忽冷忽热 'alternating between cold and hot'.
