Definition
忘情 is a literary separable verb (离合词) meaning to forget emotions — either to suppress them and become coldly detached, or to let them loose and get carried away in passion. The two senses are nearly opposite. It often appears in negative constructions like 不能忘情 ('cannot let go of feelings'). As a separable verb, aspect markers and complements go between the syllables: 忘了情, 忘不了情.
