御寒 is a verb-object compound (离合词) meaning 'to keep out the cold' or 'to protect against cold weather'. The verb 御 ('to ward off') and the object 寒 ('cold') can be separated when inserting aspect markers, complements, or modifiers, e.g., 御得了寒 ('can keep out the cold') or 御了寒 ('kept out the cold'). The object 寒 can also be modified, as in 御什么寒 ('keep out what cold?').
