Definition
得逞 means 'to succeed in achieving one's goal', but it is almost always used in a negative sense — the goal is evil, selfish, or harmful. You'll see it with things like 阴谋 ('scheme'), 诡计 ('trick'), or 野心 ('ambition'). It often appears negated: 未能得逞 ('failed to get one's way'). Using 得逞 for a positive achievement sounds unnatural.
