Definition
得病 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to fall ill' or 'to become sick'. The verb 得 and the object 病 can be split by aspect markers, measure words, or duration — for example 得了病 ('have fallen ill') or 得了一场大病 ('had a serious illness'). Use it when describing the onset of a disease, not for a chronic condition (use 生病 for that).
