Definition
待 (dài) means 'to stay, remain' in a place, often for a period of time. It is more general and everyday than 停留 (tíng liú 'stop over, stay temporarily') and less colloquial than 蹲 (dūn 'stay/hang around for a long time'). Unlike 留 (liú), which can also mean 'keep, leave behind', 待 focuses purely on staying somewhere.
