Definition
待 (dài) has several meanings: 'to treat' (like 对待 duìdài), 'to wait' (like 等待 děngdài), and as an auxiliary 'about to / need to' (more formal than 要 yào or 快要 kuàiyào). For 'wait', 待 alone is more colloquial than 等待; for 'about to', 待 is literary and less common in speech.
