Definition
归还 (guī huán) is a formal, written way to say 'return' something (especially borrowed items to a person or institution). It is more literary than the everyday 还 (huán), and unlike 退还 (tuì huán), which implies a refund or rejection, 归还 simply means giving back. Use it in official contexts like returning library books or borrowed money.
