Definition
开道 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to clear the way' or 'to make way', often for an important person, vehicle, or procession. The verb 开 and the object 道 can be separated by aspect markers (了, 过), measure words, or modifiers — for example, 开了一条道 ('cleared a path').
