Definition
开矿 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to open up or exploit a mine'. The verb 开 and the object 矿 can be separated by aspect markers (了, 过), measure words, or durations: for example, 开了三个矿 ('opened three mines') or 开过矿 ('have mined before').
