Definition
开会 (kāi huì) is the everyday phrase for having or attending a meeting. Unlike 举行 (jǔxíng 'to hold an event'), 开会 is specific to meetings; unlike 召开 (zhàokāi 'to convene'), it is not limited to formal or official gatherings. It's a separable verb (离合词), so 会 can be modified or separated (e.g., 开了一个会 'had a meeting').
