度日 is a verb-object compound (离合词) meaning 'to pass the days', often used when the passing is difficult or tedious (as in the idiom 度日如年 'days feel like years'). Because it is a separable verb, when you need to add a duration or quantity, you split it: place the modifier between 度 and 日, for example 度了两天日 ('spent two days'). This word leans toward a negative or hard time — for neutral daily life, use 过日子 instead.
