Definition
应当 (yīngdāng) is a slightly more formal, written variant of 应该 (yīnggāi), meaning 'should, ought to'. It is used in official or serious contexts (e.g., rules, duties) and is less common in everyday speech than 应该. It is stronger than 该 (gāi) in expressing moral or logical obligation.
