峰 (fēng) is a noun that literally means the pointed top of a mountain (peak/summit). It also extends to similar physical protrusions like the hump of a camel (驼峰) and figuratively to the highest point of something (高峰, 巅峰). In compound words it's very common: 山峰 (mountain peak), 顶峰 (summit/climax), 高峰 (peak period/rush hour). You don't use 峰 alone to mean 'peak hour'—it's always in a compound.
