Definition
岔气 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to get a stitch' — a sharp pain in the side, usually from running, laughing, or sudden exertion. The noun 气 can separate from 岔 when you insert aspects or quantifiers, e.g. 岔了气 ('got a stitch'), 岔过一次气 ('had a stitch once'). Use it without an object; don't say '岔气 something' — just say '我岔气了'.
