Definition
山区 (shān qū) refers to a mountainous region or area — a place where mountains are the main geographical feature. Unlike 山脉 (shān mài), which is the mountain range itself (the line of peaks), 山区 is the inhabited area around or within the mountains. 区域 (qū yù) is a general 'area/region' without the mountain-specific meaning.
