Definition
屑 is a bound morpheme (不成词语素) that cannot stand alone as a word. It appears in compound words with three main senses: (1) small fragments or particles (木屑, 铁屑, 纸屑), (2) trivial or petty (琐屑), and (3) 'consider worthwhile' — used only in the negative phrase 不屑 ('not deign to, scorn'), as in 不屑一顾 ('not worth a glance').
