Definition
小姑 is a kinship term that refers to two different relatives depending on context: most commonly it means your husband's younger sister (小姑子), but it can also mean your father's younger sister (小姑母, i.e., your aunt). The term is narrower than the English 'sister-in-law' or 'aunt' because Chinese kinship distinguishes by side of the family and relative age. In everyday conversation, 小姑 almost always means the husband's younger sister unless the context clearly points to the paternal aunt.
