Definition
将心比心 is a common four-character idiom (chengyu) meaning 'to put yourself in someone else's shoes'. It literally says 'compare heart with heart' — you use your own feelings to understand another person's perspective. You'll hear it in advice: 你要将心比心 ('You need to be empathetic') or in explanations like 他不懂得将心比心 ('He doesn't know how to empathize'). It's a polite, culturally natural way to encourage empathy without sounding preachy.
