封建 (fēngjiàn) has two main senses: the historical feudal system (noun) and, in modern use, an adjective meaning 'feudalistic' or 'backward and conservative,' usually describing outdated social norms. It is more specific than 落后 (general backwardness) and carries a stronger ideological tone than 保守 (resistance to political change).
