Definition
导演 (dǎoyǎn) refers to the creative director of a film, play, or TV show, or the action of directing one. It differs from 指挥 (zhǐhuī) 'conductor/commander' (music or military) and from 经理 (jīnglǐ) / 主任 (zhǔrèn) (business/department 'directors'), which are administrative rather than artistic roles.
