Definition
寡人 is an archaic first-person pronoun used exclusively by a monarch (king, emperor) in ancient China to refer to themselves. It literally means 'the solitary person' and conveys the ruler's unique, solitary status. This term is not used in modern Chinese except in historical dramas, classical texts, or deliberate archaism.
