Definition
寒流 has two main uses: in weather it refers to a cold snap or cold wave that brings a sudden temperature drop, and in oceanography it means a cold current. A rare literary usage also exists, where it metaphorically describes a poor scholar of limited means, but this is uncommon in modern Chinese.
