容颜 (róng yán) is a literary, elegant word for 'appearance, looks, or complexion', often used in poetry or formal writing. It is close in meaning to 容貌 (róng mào), but 容颜 carries a more refined, almost poetic tone. Unlike 长相 (zhǎng xiàng), which is the everyday word for 'looks', 容颜 is rarely used in casual conversation.
