Definition
家 (jiā) is the everyday word for 'home' (the place you live) and 'family' (the people). Unlike 家庭 (jiātíng), which refers to the family/household as a unit, 家 can also mean the physical home. As a suffix, 家 means a specialist or expert (e.g., 艺术家 'artist'), while 者 (zhě) is a more general suffix for 'one who does something' (e.g., 读者 'reader').
