定级 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to determine a grade or level'. It's used in contexts like job evaluations, product ratings, or skill assessments. The verb 定 and noun 级 can split when inserting measure words or complements: 定了级 ('determined a grade'), 定过级 ('have graded before'). You don't put the object directly after 定级 — instead, say 给产品定级 ('grade a product') or 为员工定级 ('rate an employee').
