Definition
安神 is a separable verb-object phrase (离合词) meaning 'to soothe the nerves' or 'to calm the mind', commonly used in daily life and Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM). Since it is formed by a verb (安) and an object (神), the two parts can be separated when inserting measure words, duration, or other elements — for example, 安一会儿神 ('calm the nerves for a while') or 安了神 ('have calmed the nerves'). It cannot take a direct object; instead you say 用这个药安神 ('use this medicine to calm the nerves').
