安宁 (ān níng) means a deep, lasting peace free from disturbance, used for both personal inner calm and societal order. It is broader than 平静 (píng jìng, calm of water/emotions) and 宁静 (níng jìng, serene quiet), and unlike 平安 (píng ān, which stresses safety), 安宁 stresses the absence of turmoil.
