Definition
孤高 describes a person who is aloof and self-contained, often with a sense of moral or intellectual superiority — close to 'proud and solitary' in a classical, often literary, frame. It can also describe natural scenery like mountains or trees that stand tall and isolated. The tone can be admiring (清高, untainted by vulgarity) or critical (supercilious), depending on context.
