字幕 (zìmù) refers specifically to on-screen text that translates or transcribes dialogue in videos or films — subtitles or captions. Unlike 说明 (shuōmíng, 'explanation, caption'), which is a broader term for explanatory text (e.g., in a manual or photo), 字幕 is only used for audiovisual media. 标题 (biāotí) is unrelated — it means 'title, headline'.
