Definition
嫂嫂 is a familiar, affectionate term for an elder brother's wife, often used in northern dialects. You can also address a married woman of roughly your own age or slightly older as 嫂嫂 as a sign of respect—even if she's not your sister-in-law. The reduplicated form sounds warmer than 嫂子 (sǎozi).
