Definition
娶亲 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to take a wife' or 'to get married' (for a man). It combines the verb 娶 (to marry a woman) and the noun 亲 (marriage). In use, the two parts can split when inserting aspect markers or measure words — for example, 娶了亲 (got married), 娶过亲 (has been married), or 娶两次亲 (married twice). Note that 娶亲 focuses on the man's action; a woman 'marries into' the man's family (嫁).
