Definition
姨丈 refers to the husband of one's mother's sister (maternal aunt's husband). In Chinese kinship terminology, this relationship is distinguished from other 'uncles': contrast with 叔叔 (father's younger brother) and 舅舅 (mother's brother). English usually uses the broad term 'uncle' for all of these, so use 姨丈 when you need to be specific about the maternal side and marriage connection.
