Definition
妓 is a bound form (b.f.) that only appears in compounds, not as a standalone word. In modern Chinese it most commonly means 'prostitute' (as in 妓女 'prostitute' and 妓院 'brothel'). Historically it also referred to female entertainers or courtesans (歌妓 'singing girl'). The historical sense is now mostly literary or in fixed terms.
