妄自尊大 is a four-character idiom (chengyu) that describes someone who is arrogantly self-important and overestimates their own abilities. It is often used to criticize a person's inflated sense of self-worth or dismissive attitude toward others. The literal meaning is 'recklessly self-respecting as great,' but the actual usage is purely negative, implying unwarranted pride.
