Definition
女儿 (nǚ'ér) is the standard, neutral word for 'daughter' (one's female child). It is the direct counterpart of 儿子 (ér zi, 'son'). In informal speech, 姑娘 (gū niang) can also mean 'daughter', but it more commonly means 'girl' or 'young woman'.
