奚落 (xī luò) means to taunt or ridicule with a dismissive, contemptuous tone — it's about belittling someone, not just making fun. It is more contemptuous than 嘲笑 (cháo xiào, general mockery) and lacks the playful intent of 调侃 (tiáo kǎn, light-hearted teasing).
