Definition
失手 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to accidentally lose one's grip or make a mistake while handling something'. It's often used when you drop or break something by accident. The verb 失 and the noun 手 can be split: between them you can insert a measure word (次) or result/complement, e.g. 失过一次手 ('made a mistake once before') or 失了手 ('lost grip').
