Definition
失地 is a separable verb (离合词) meaning 'to lose territory' — typically in a military, political, or economic context. The verb 失 can separate from 地 when you want to insert a measure word (失了一块地), a time duration (失了三年地), or a result complement (失光了地). It's the opposite of 收复失地 ('recover lost territory'), a common 四字格.
