Definition
失传 (shī chuán) means a skill, technique, or cultural tradition has died out because no one passed it on. Unlike 绝 (jué), which can mean any kind of extinction (species, sound) and has many other unrelated meanings, 失传 is only used for knowledge and crafts with no living inheritors.
