Definition
央 is a bound form (b.f.) that only appears in compound words. It has three main senses: (1) to entreat, to beg, as in 央求 (yāngqiú, 'to beg'); (2) center, middle, as in 中央 (zhōngyāng, 'center'); (3) (literary) end, finish, as in 夜未央 (yè wèi yāng, 'the night is not yet over'). You cannot use 央 alone; it must be part of a multi-character word.
