Definition
大陆 (Dàlù) refers to mainland China, especially in political/geopolitical contrast to Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Macau. 内地 (nèidì) also means mainland China but is more common in Hong Kong/Macau contexts and can also refer to inland areas within China (vs. coastal regions). Use 大陆 when the contrast is with Taiwan; use 内地 when the contrast is with Hong Kong/Macau or when referring to interior regions.
