Definition
大娘 is a respectful term for an elderly woman, similar to 'aunty' in English but also used for acquaintances and strangers you want to address politely. It can also refer specifically to the wife of one's father's elder brother (a specific kinship relation). The term conveys warmth and respect, and is common in Northern Chinese dialects.
