Definition
大姑娘 has two main senses. In standard Mandarin, it means 'eldest daughter' or 'grown-up unmarried woman' (e.g. 她家的大姑娘 very pretty). In some Northern dialects, particularly around Beijing, it can also mean 'aunt' (usually father's elder sister). The intended meaning depends on regional context.
