Definition
大典 has two main senses. The first is a grand, formal ceremony — often a state occasion like a coronation or opening ceremony. The second refers to a monumental collection of classical texts or an encyclopedia, most famously the 永乐大典 (Yǒnglè Dàdiǎn), a Ming dynasty encyclopedia. The word is not used for ordinary ceremonies or small dictionaries.
