Definition
大众 (dà zhòng) refers to 'the general public' or 'the masses' in a broad, neutral sense — used for mass media, popular culture, etc. Compared to 群众 (qún zhòng, often political), 民众 (mín zhòng, common people), and 公众 (gōng zhòng, the public as a group), 大众 is the most general and everyday term. As an attributive, it means 'popular, mass-' (大众音乐 popular music).
